5 Gigawatts. $7 Billion. Microsoft's Newest West Texas Power Play 🔥

The news out of West Texas is a massive signal to the Data Center Sector

Microsoft and Chevron just signed a $7 Billion exclusivity deal to power a new AI complex.

This isn't just another partnership, It’s become a structural merger between Big Oil and Big Tech.

The Power Play ⬇️

⚡ The Juice - 2.5GW of gas-fired capacity to start, scaling up to 5GW.

🏭 The Hardware - They’ve already ordered 7 GE Vernova turbines.

🛢️ The Advantage - Chevron is already pumping 1M+ barrels a day right there.

📅 The Timeline - They’re aiming to be online by late 2027.

Why does this now matter?

Historically, Chevron and ExxonMobil Permian didn't want anything to do with the power sector. But the AI boom has created a power problem that the grid simply can't solve.

If you want a new transmission line, you’re looking at a 10-year wait. If you build a gas plant right next to your data center? You can do it in two.

Chevron’s CEO put it bluntly 🗣️ "you can't just plug a massive data center into the existing grid and hope for the best"

If you need gigawatt-scale power before 2030, you go to the source.

Chevron has the fuel and the land where as Microsoft has the capital to lock it down before anyone else can.

Between this and the 900MW move in Abilene, the West Texas land grab is officially in overdrive. 🤠

At GS2 | B Corp™, we’re delivering the specialized teams behind these massive HPC and grid projects. If you’re trying to scale while the grid is standing still, let’s talk!

$185B+ is quietly being deployed across U.S. soil right now.

Not into stocks. Not into housing. Into AI infrastructure.

Most people don’t realize how aggressive this buildout has become.

We’re talking nation-scale capital deployment to power the next decade of compute.

Here’s where the money is going:

Top U.S. Data Center Projects (2026)

1. 📍 Abilene, TX

OpenAI “Stargate”

💰 $100B | ⚡ 4.5 GW | Announced

2. 📍 Shackelford County, TX

Vantage Frontier Campus

💰 $25B | ⚡ 1.4 GW | Announced

3. 📍 Pennsylvania (Multiple Sites)

Amazon AI Campuses

💰 $20B | Permitting

4. 📍 North Carolina

Amazon AWS Expansion

💰 $10B | Announced

5. 📍 Louisiana

Meta Campus (Monroe)

💰 $10B | Under Construction

6. 📍 Mississippi

Compass Meridian

💰 $10B | Phased Build

7. 📍 Ohio

Cologix Campus

💰 ~$7B | Planned

8. 📍 Wisconsin

Microsoft Data Center

💰 $3.3B | Under Construction

9. 📍 Ohio

Amazon AWS (Sunbury)

💰 $2B | Planning

10. 📍 Nebraska

Google Data Center

💰 $600M | Under Construction

What actually matters here:

📊 Power is now the bottleneck, not capital

📊 Multi-gigawatt campuses are becoming standard

📊 Texas and the Midwest are winning on land + energy

📊 $10B+ projects are no longer outliers… they’re the norm

This isn’t just tech expansion.

It’s a full-scale reallocation of capital into the backbone of the digital economy.

The same way oil defined the last century…

Compute infrastructure is defining the next.

The question isn’t whether this continues.

It’s who captures the second-order value.

Land? Power? Cooling? Financing?

Which layer of this stack do you think ends up being the most underpriced over the next 3–5 years?

Data center investor Related Digital is reportedly close to finalizing $16 billion in financing for an Oracle data center.

According to reporting from Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter, the data center is likely Oracle’s longstanding data center campus development in Saline Township, Michigan.

Related Digital, which was launched out of US real estate investment firm Related Companies, has long been involved in the development of this campus in partnership with Oracle and OpenAI. Last year, the project was valued at $10 billion.

The development saw local opposition in the form of a lawsuit, which has since been settled.

In October last year, Related Digital said it was developing the project exclusively for Oracle and that it would be part of OpenAI’s Stargate project.

An Oracle spokesperson said the project had recently hit a major milestone, with vertical construction of the campus underway, according to reporting from Reuters.

In December, investor Blue Owl Capital, which had been in discussions with Oracle about investing in the project, said it would not provide funds for the development.

Soon after, reports emerged that Oracle was struggling to secure funding for its OpenAI commitments, as banks and investors lacked confidence in the company’s ability to meet them. Investment firm TD Cowen had previously speculated that Oracle was evaluating layoffs of between 20,000 and 30,000 employees to generate around $8-10 billion in free cash flow.

Oracle has since begun laying off thousands of its workers to fuel its AI data center spend, as revealed in internal emails to staff at the company.

The company also conducted a round of layoffs in August and September 2025, though the scale was much smaller.

Blackstone has also reportedly provided nearly $2 billion to the Saline Township project, though this is less than what was originally expected from the investment firm.

Bloomberg reported that an additional $14 billion in debt financing from Bank of America, originally a construction loan, is expected to now involve a bond issuance.

Related Companies has more than $70 billion in assets owned or under development, including mixed-use, residential, retail, office, and hospitality.
