Atlanta, GA — South Fulton Hospital Proposal Advances: $900M Grady Health System Project Targets Healthcare Desert, Bond-Funded by Fulton County

Atlanta, GA — Fulton County leaders are preparing to vote on a major healthcare expansion plan that would bring a new full-service hospital to South Fulton County—an area widely identified as a critical healthcare desert.

The proposed $900 million development would be a public-private partnership between Fulton County, Grady Health System, and the Grady Foundation. The project is designed to restore access to essential medical services for thousands of residents across South Fulton and surrounding metro Atlanta communities.

Under the proposal, the total cost would be split evenly among the three partners. Fulton County plans to fund its $300 million share through municipal bonds, avoiding the use of general fund dollars while accelerating development timelines.

If approved, the South Fulton hospital project would mark one of the largest healthcare infrastructure investments in metro Atlanta, positioning the region for long-term population growth, improved emergency care access, and expanded medical services in an underserved market.
